Nobukazu Kuriki

Nobukazu Kuriki Profile

“When you have a dream, you will hold hope as well as a great worry at the same time. However, limits are set by oneself. An infinite world like the blue cosmos? I want to go where nobody has set foot before.”
Born in Hokkaido, 1982. A young, solo alpinist challenging the first Japanese independent, artificial oxygen-less ascension of Mount Everest.
Succeeded in June 2004 in ascending the greatest North American summit, Mount McKinley, alone on his first trip overseas. After that in January 2005, he ascended the South American summit Aconcagua alone. Yearning to experience the Earth through climbing mountains, he climbed up six of the seven continents’ summits.
From 2007 onwards, Kuriki started aiming for the Himalayan mountains over 8,000m and in May 2005 managed to ascend the world’s sixth highest summit, Cho Oyu, alone and without artificial oxygen.
His successful climb in October 2008 to the top of Manaslu, world’s eight highest summit, marks the first Japanese independent, artificial oxygen-less ascension, and succeeded in skiing down the mountain. Kuriki ascended the world’s seventh highest summit, Dhaulagiri (8,167m), in May 2009, alone and without artificial oxygen and broadcasted live on the Internet.
Currently, Kuriki is attempting to ascend the last of the seven continents’ summits, Mount Everest (8,848m), alone and without artificial oxygen whilst participating in speeches in industries. The Everest climb alone and without oxygen has never met success at the hands of a Japanese climber, and it will be the first live broadcast over the Internet!
